PDF Metadata Cleaner FAQ

Which PDF metadata fields can contain personal information?

Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, creation date, modification date, and XMP fields can expose names, systems, or workflow history.

Does removing metadata also remove comments and annotations?

No. Comments, annotations, attachments, form fields, hidden layers, JavaScript, and visible page content need separate review.

Can metadata return after the PDF is edited again?

Yes. PDF editors and libraries can write new producer, modified date, author, or application fields when the file is saved again.

Does metadata cleaning redact visible information?

No. Names, images, account numbers, or other visible page content must be removed with an appropriate editing or redaction workflow.
